Dragon 1/35th Panther D, Early

This model is the Dragon 1/35th scale Panther D, Early.  Its color scheme and decals represent a Panther D at the battle of Kursk in the Summer of 1943.

The kit used is from Dragon, item number 6164. I have been planning on building a decent looking early Panther D forever, and started to build this thing as soon as it was released. In order to depict a very early production model, some modifications were made. - additional extended front fender made out of spare plastic Panther fenders. - trapizoid looking toolbox on the right side, scratch built with little imagination. - asymmetrical fancover converted from kit parts with polyester putty. - modelkasten early Panther tracks. Also, the model was detailed up with Aber photoetch parts for the OVM holders, and JR barrel was used. The coloring and turret number is based on one of the pictures in Concord's Panther book. The base color is Tamiya's acrylic, and then the model was washed with oil color. The rest is hand painted with modelmaster enamels.
